BANGKA TENGAH, KATABABEL.COM — PT Timah remains committed to improving the quality of public health. One of its continuous efforts is organizing Capacity Building Training for Health Cadres to support sustainable stunting prevention.
Health cadres play an increasingly strategic role—not only as Posyandu (integrated health service post) assistants but also as change agents who promote healthy living within families and communities. Therefore, PT Timah is dedicated to enhancing their capacity through training held at the Sungai Selan Village Hall for five days (July 28–August 1, 2025).
The training was attended by 30 participants, including 28 health cadres and 2 midwives from the Sungai Selan Health Center. The participants welcomed the training with great enthusiasm.
Suryanti, a health cadre from Sungai Selan, shared that the training gave her more confidence in assisting the community.
“At first, I was scared, but after attending the training, I learned how to deal with health issues in the field. I’ll apply this knowledge for myself, my family, and the community. Don’t be afraid to try, because we can help protect our environment from health problems,” she said passionately.
Similarly, Iis Indah, a midwife at the Sungai Selan Health Center, emphasized that cadres are at the forefront of stunting prevention.
“This training is very useful. With improved capacity, health cadres can better serve families and the community. Well-trained cadres are more prepared to educate on parenting, balanced nutrition, and support mothers with toddlers to help prevent stunting in children,” she explained.
Gumala Erlena Dewi, Head of Social Welfare and Community Empowerment at the Sungai Selan Subdistrict, also stressed the importance of cadres as a bridge between medical personnel and the community.
“Behavioral change can’t be achieved through formal outreach alone. The presence of cadres, who are close to the residents, allows health messages to be delivered more effectively,” she stated.
PT Timah Tbk’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Budiman Siahaan, added that active health cadres are key to the success of stunting prevention programs.
“Cadres are real change agents in the community. They don’t just share information—they also set an example in practicing a healthy lifestyle. That’s why we will continue to support trainings like this as part of the company’s commitment to improving public health quality,” he said.
Armed with new knowledge and skills, the health cadres in Sungai Selan are now ready to lead change, create a healthier environment, and ensure that every child can grow and develop optimally. (*)
